Philip Ivlev-Yorke
From Russian refugee to Ukrainian hero—one man's extraordinary journey from the front lines to the rescue lines.

Philip Ivlev-Yorke receives a text from an unknown number. No address—just a set of rough coordinates and a desperate plea for help. Drone and missile strikes are closing in. Without hesitation, Philip and his team throw on their flak jackets and helmets, pile into their van, and head straight toward the danger. It’s a routine they’ve repeated almost daily for the past two years.
Born and raised in Russia, Philip grew up in a bilingual household with a Russian mother and a British father. His early life took a dramatic turn when his mother, an outspoken activist, became a target of the Putin regime. The two fled to England, and later relocated to Kyiv, the heart of a free Ukraine.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Philip didn’t hesitate to act. He joined the ranks of civilian volunteers defending the country’s independence—even though it meant taking up arms against the nation of his birth. During his year on the front lines, he was captured, and managed a daring escape.
After that, Philip chose a different battlefield. He laid down his weapon and dedicated himself to rescuing civilians forced to flee as the war closed in —risking his life not with bullets, but with courage, compassion, and an unwavering sense of duty.
Philip Ivlev-Yorke is a warrior in every sense—brave, relentless, and driven by an unshakable belief in justice and human dignity.
